Workstations in a contemporary BPO office in Kraków

In last few years city tissue of Krakow has been changing quietly. The impact of outsourcing sector location is so big that urban sociologist start to compare it to Nowa Huta location in 50’s in XX century. But the change is different. As observers and documentalist we wanted to ask important questions about daily life, social impact, urbanism, architecture and transport challenges this topic is connected with. In result we introduced this topic to Krakowians: students (possible future employees of BPO), scientist, journalist, local administration, citizens, and finally – BPO staff by itself.

International companies with above-average capital creates work places, where comfort is a priority for both the design of space and work itself. New standards in office spaces arrangement causes that being at work becomes more enjoyable and convenient than ever before. As unusual rooms are being created, leisure time in work gains a new dimension. Architecture teams are competing in the creative design of offices, there are murals, waterfalls and massage rooms, as a result creating harmony becomes a new challenge.

In my photographic reportage, I observe contemporary office spaces, focusing on comfort and peripheral zones detached from direct labour. The arrangement of space becomes a lens through which the condition of work is examined.
